CHART

At CHART 2017 Helsinki Contemporary celebrates CHART art fair’s 5th edition with a curated duo show by Ville Andersson and Lukas Göthman. These two artists will present works that express their curious and joyful perception of our reality.

When looking at Ville Andersson’s and Lukas Göthman’s work they are connected on several levels. They work in different media and the trace is not the same. At further inspection the artists work is linked on many levels, both conceptually and through their approach to their artistic practice.

Both artist work with great precision and with great patience. Ville Andersson’s detailed drawings crave a lot of time and concentration, as do Göthman’s detailed text paintings. For both this means an intensive immersion within series of works or a certain continuum in their practice. However, what is created with great meticulousness materialises as an elegant ease in the finished work.

The sense of material is very present in both Göthman’s thick-layered oil paintings where you can almost sense the smell of fresh oil colour and more subtly in Andersson’s drawing that reminds us of a landscape or rock formations.

Creating distinctive spaces or worlds is also something the artists have in common. For his photographs Ville Andersson stages different situations, creates intricate settings and carefully.

plans the outcome. In parallel Göthman “stages” the story of the on-going Journey -project in his works and writing, from these he finds the phrases used in the paintings. For Andersson the photographs are always connected to his drawings on both conceptual and aestethical levels. In the same way Göthman’s work, whether it is writing, living the Journey or painting, is conceptually coherent at all times.
