Passion Play is a painting exhibition in a space and for a space. It’s a group exhibition, which creates a situation for the painting and in the painting. It’s a corporeal experimentality, which moves toward a presence; and especially a presence together with a painting, which is in that particular place, there, in its own special way.

It’s not about a painting as an installation, neither about a site specific painting, but about the spatiality of the painting. It’s about a space and about situations, which we create in an encounter. And this is an encounter as a multiple event, where all the agents participate: the artist, the work, the place, the time, the space, the viewer, all these being entwined, forming one physical story full of mental pictures.

Passion Play presents three special agents, three painters who are brought together in a way that respects the privacy and the identity of each agent and each work. Spatially, this means a calm but intensive rhythm. It also means a surprisingness, which is achieved by small gestures, beautiful steps that are so typical of painting.

Eeva-Riitta Eerola (b. 1980 Siilinjärvi) graduated from the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in 2010 and has also studied in France École nationale supérieure des Beaux-arts de Paris. In 2012 Eerola’s work was seen at Forum Box gallery. Her works are represented in Sara Hildén Art Museum, EMMA Espoo museum of modern art and Swanljung collection at Kuntsi Museum of Modern Art.

Jaana Laakkonen (b. 1985 in Joensuu) graduated from TAMK’s programme for visual arts in 2010 and is currently working on her master’s degree at the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts. Laakkonen’s work will during the spring also be presented at Forum Box gallery.

Kalle Leino (b. 1982 Jyväskylä) graduated from the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in 2010. He has also studied at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm. Leino’s works have been seen in solo exhibitions for example at SPG gallery in Stockholm and recently at SIC gallery in Helsinki. Later in the spring Leino participates in a group exhibition at Malmö konsthall.
