Eeva-Riitta Eerola

In her works Eeva-Riitta Eerola explores perception and how we understand and experience images. Working in series and creating subtle links between her works are at the core of her practice. Through simplification and by minimizing the visual components in her works, Eerola studies the basic elements of painting, their friction and interaction, as well as the processes of viewing. There is a strong sense of space and presence in the the artist’s works – something you can feel although you might not quite recognise it.

Eeva-Riitta Eerola (b. 1980, Siilinjärvi) graduated from the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in 2010. She has also studied at École nationale supérieure des Beaux-arts in Paris. She has exhibited extensively in Finland and abroad, e.g. at Sara Hildén Museum of Art, Sinne gallery, Seinäjoki Kunsthalle, Galleri Bo Bjerggaard in Copenhagen, and at JAUS Gallery in Los Angeles. Eerola's last solo show, Locus, was seen at Helsinki Contemporary in 2022. Eerola also works in collaboration with video artist Jenni Toikka. Their collaborative works have been shown most recently at SIC in Helsinki (2025), Turku Art Museum (2017) and in France at Maison Louis Carré (2019). Eerola's works are represented in several Finnish public collections, including the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma, the Saastamoinen Foundation, the Sara Hildén Art Museum and the Wihuri Foundation.
